The Canvas Project at Anderson Mall supports, showcases local art

Anderson Mall and Trammell & Mills Law Firm LLC have teamed up with artist Patro Ulmer to add color, texture and vibrancy to outdoor spaces as part of The Canvas Project.

An artist and designer from Orangeburg, SC, Ulmer is known for his vision and creativity within the community. He recently created the Butterfly mural located at the main entrance of Anderson Mall. The mural is presented by Chappelear & Associates Inc.

Ulmer has also been recognized for his clothing and school murals, and he assisted with creating Mural on Main along Orr Street in downtown Anderson.

Known as “the boy that can draw,” Ulmer’s visionary artwork has received national attention on television, in magazines and blogs.

“Local artists make our community vibrant,” said Anderson Mall General Manager Chunsta Miller. “Their use of subjects, color, texture and composition awaken a sense of curiosity and connection to the world around us.”

The Canvas Project at Anderson Mall is designed to support Anderson’s local arts culture, inspire young people in the community and provide an opportunity for the community to grow together, Miller says. For example, District 5 Westside High School students are assisting Patro in creating murals at the mall.

To increase visibility of local artists and their work, murals will appear on the mall’s main entrance wall facing Clemson Boulevard. The Canvas Project spotlights an artist’s talent with live, in-person and in-progress work.

Anderson Mall has expanded The Canvas Project by utilizing 28 parking spaces outside its main entrance to feature the logos and designs of 28 community partners. The concept represents community, togetherness, and a sense of belonging, Miller said.
