A second chance leads “Just Jeanie” to Anderson’s only Urban Gospel radio station

Eugenia “Just Jeanie” Dawson-Burris has wanted to be in broadcasting since graduating high school, but those around her talked her out it. She earned a business degree instead.

In 2016, after being diagnosed with breast cancer, Dawson-Burris decided to rethink her career choice.

“I got a second chance at life, so I decided to go back and do something I’ve always wanted to do,” she said. So, she earned a degree in broadcasting and communications from Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton, then landed a weekly, hourlong Christian gospel show on a bluegrass station at WRIX in Anderson.

“It was very challenging, but hey, I was able to get the word out and spread the gospel about Jesus Christ,” Dawson-Burris said.

That one-hour-a-week radio show gave way to a 24/7 station in September 2020 when Spirit Gospel Radio launched as Anderson’s only Urban Gospel radio station.

Found at 105.1 FM and 1390 AM, WABB airs Urban Gospel hits from yesterday and today by well-known inspirational, praise and worship artists like Casey J, Shirley Caesar, Cool Dave, Travis Greene, Deitrick Haddon, Karen Clark Sheard, Kurt Carr and many others.

The station also airs syndicated programming such as the Marvin Sapp Show and local shows like “Community Connection with “Just Jeanie” as Dawson-Burris interviews community leaders and spotlights area events of interest.

“We want to make the communities we serve a better place to live by providing families with a spiritual anchor and news, weather and emergency information needed to keep the family informed, safe and encouraged,” Dawson-Burris said. “We play inspirational and encouraging music. Especially nowadays, with all of this going on, we need to hear something positive and brighten our spirit.”

WABB is part of the Electric City Broadcasting, which is owned by the Power Foundation, a nonprofit 501c3 radio ministry.

Spirit Radio is funded by advertising from area businesses and churches, and by listener donations. It is recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 charitable organization and all donations are tax-deductible.
