Learn the requirements for opening a small business at BYOB on March 18

Date

Should my business be registered as an LLC or a corporation? Do I need a state or federal tax ID number? Should I register my business name and how?

These are just a few of the questions facing those who are ready to open a small business. And the City of Anderson Economic Development office is bringing in an expert to help on Thursday, March 18, during BYOB Bring Your Own Business from Noon until 1:30 p.m.

Tyler Gilliam, a business and tax attorney for Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, will be on hand to discuss the legal requirements for small businesses during the session entitled, “Legals and Licenses: Before you dig.”

Gilliam helps companies establish and maintain effective South Carolina operations while implementing entity structures and transactions in a tax-efficient manner. In his practice, Gilliam works with clients on a range of state and local tax issues, including handling property tax appeals, securing South Carolina tax credits, and ensuring sales tax compliance.

A year-long series presented by the City of Anderson, BYOB is designed to equip entrepreneurs and small business owners with the information, skills and resources needed to build a business from the ground up and to maintain successful operations.

BYOB is held the third Thursday of each month from Noon until 1:30 p.m. at the city’s Economic Development office, 102 N. Murray Avenue. All sessions are free and lunch is provided, however registration is required.

To register for the March 18 session, email Caroline Gaddis at cgaddis@cityofandersonsc.com. Registration must be completed by March 17.
