Editor’s Note: Anderson SC Living is partnering with Rettew Creative to expand the audience for Storefront Stories as area businesses continue to rebuild from COVID-19. Bobby Rettew and digital media students from Anderson University’s Communications program recorded the first Storefront Story on April 22, 2021, and since have captured the experiences of almost 30 downtown businesses. When the coronavirus pandemic hit in early 2020, the owners of Palmetto Screen Print and Embroidery in Anderson began wondering what they could do to stay afloat.
“We decided that one of the best things we could offer to the community would be to give them something they could sell,” said Mark Brannon, who owns Palmetto Screen Print with his wife. “We reached out to local businesses and asked them if they would like to buy t-shirts, essentially at our cost, and turn around and sell them to bring some income to their store.”
Brannon called on Lunchbox Creative in Anderson to design the ‘Anderson Strong’ t-shirts and Palmetto Screen Print and Embroidery produced them for Anderson area businesses.
“The last time we calculated, we’d put $8,000 back into the community which isn’t a lot when you look at it, but for the businesses that took advantage of that, it was a big deal,” Brannon said.
