Storefront Stories: The Fashion Shack

Date

Editor’s Note: Anderson SC Living is partnering with Rettew Creative to expand the audience for Storefront Stories as area businesses continue to rebuild from COVID-19. Bobby Rettew and digital media students from Anderson University’s Communications program recorded the first Storefront Story on April 22, 2021, and since have captured the experiences of almost 30 downtown businesses. Look for a Storefront Story every Wednesday here at Anderson SC Living.

A resale shop offering name brand clothing for men, women, juniors and children, The Fashion Shack in downtown Anderson weathered the coronavirus pandemic by being creative and coming up with new ways to help the business succeed.

Opened almost 30 years ago by Beth Pierce and her husband, the family-owned business is a discount marketplace and exchange store where customers can sell clothing and find designer brands at 65 to 75 percent off retail prices.

“The biggest thing I would take away from (the pandemic) is that small business in America is so important,” Pierce said. “And with what we do, reselling merchandise from people – so we buy from local people and resell high-end items – it’s a wonderful tool for people to be able to come in and get some cash for things that they are selling. We’re really proud of what we do and we love being able to provide this to our community.”

This video story was crafted and produced by digital media students from Anderson University’s Communication Program. As an Assistant Professor of Communication and owner of Rettew Creative, Bobby Rettew led a team of students in the COM 351 Corporate Video Production class to create these stories. This project provided a unique opportunity where students were able to leverage their technical video production skills along with enhancing their soft skills by interacting with clients and connecting with the downtown Anderson business community.
