Belton – Incorporated in 1855, Belton lies in eastern Anderson County and is named after John Belton O’Neal of Newberry, SC, the first president of the Columbia and Greenville Railroad.

Belton is the home of the Palmetto Tennis Championships, the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame and the annual Standpipe Festival. Inspired by the Belton Standpipe, a 155-foot concrete water tower that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987, the Belton Standpipe Heritage and Arts Festival is held in the fall on the city’s historic square.
