The City of Anderson lies in the northwest corner of South Carolina, along the shores of Lake Hartwell. Located at the geographic center of the county, Anderson is the principal city in Anderson County and serves as the county seat.
City services include police, fire and EMS, infrastructure and utilities, parks and recreation, and public transportation provided by Electric City Transit. The City supports economic and community development initiatives,
establishing legislative policy and enacting laws, rules and regulations to promote a positive quality of life and a healthy environment in which to work, play, and live.
The City of Anderson is governed by a Council-Manager form of government composed of a Mayor and eight Council members.
The Mayor and two Council members are elected at-large and six Council members are elected on a single-member seat basis. The Mayor and Council, elected for four-year staggered terms, possess legislative and policymaking powers for the City. The Council appoints a City Manager who serves as the chief executive officer of the City and is responsible to the Council for the proper administration of all affairs of the City.
