The public is invited to celebrate the official groundbreaking ceremony for AU’s Soccer and Lacrosse fieldhouse.
AU announced in early August 2019 the addition of men’s lacrosse to its expanding list of intercollegiate sports while naming Albert Mitchell as the Trojans’ first head coach.
Beginning next month, AU will join 10 other South Atlantic Conference members who currently offer men’s lacrosse and with the addition of men’s lacrosse in the Electric City, the South Atlantic Conference boasts 11 members sponsoring the sport (UVa Wise and Carson-Newman are the exceptions), including national powerhouse Limestone, which officially joined the league as a full-time member last fall.
The men’s and women’s soccer teams, which have combined for 17 South Atlantic Conference Tournament appearances, will begin their quest for their fifth NCAA Tournament appearance early next month.
The fieldhouse adds to the growing list of enhancements since Trojan Stadium became the home of AU Soccer just prior to the 2010 season, with a state-of-the-art Musco lighting system installed in 2017 and a synthetic turf field constructed just last summer.
