Join us for a presentation about the Cherokee Path by Dennis Chastain, a Pickens County naturalist, historian and outdoors writer. Over a four year period, he and his wife, Jane, researched and documented the ancient Cherokee Path all the way from Kings Street in Charleston to where it crossed the Chattooga River at Earle’s Ford.
Learn about some of our most prominent heroes of the Revolutionary War who got their first taste of war fighting the Cherokees in the very early 1760’s. The list includes: Francis Marion and his brother, Thomas Sumter, William Moultrie, Andrew Pickens, Thomas Middleton, Henry Laurens and Christopher Gadsden. Who knew, for example, that Thomas Sumter lived with the Cherokees for more than a year?
This event is free; donations are accepted. Email Linda at lbloparo@andersoncountysc.org to register to attend.
