Find unique shaved snow desserts at Vampire Penguin in Anderson and Powdersville

You’ve probably heard of shaved ice, but what about shaved snow?

Bon Appetit calls shaved snow the “fluffiest, most delightful frozen dessert there is” and now you can find it right here in the Upstate.

With locations in Anderson and Powdersville, Vampire Penguin Dessert Shop offers a full complement of shaved snow flavors from cotton candy and strawberry cheesecake to banana split, peanut butter cup and Kit Kat bar. So far, strawberry cheesecake is the fan favorite, store owners say.

Vampire Penguin also offers vegan and dairy-free options, and after numerous requests, the owners now have a sugar-free snow.

Rather than a traditional shaved ice with syrup added on top, shaved snow is a dessert with a light, fluffy, creamy consistency topped with fresh fruit, whipped cream, sauces or sprinkles. And the shaved snow desserts have four times less sugar than ice cream or yogurt, according to the brother-and-sister team of Mathew and Shaina Cagle, local owners of Vampire Penguin.

Created by two brothers from the Philippines, the shaved snow dessert concept took a year to perfect. They named the franchise Vampire Penguin to have a name as unique as the product.

In the Powdersville area, Vampire Penguin is located near the intersection of Highways 8 and 153 at 11021 Anderson Road in Piedmont. In Anderson, Vampire Penguin is located off Clemson Boulevard at 118 Commons Parkway. Hours are Tuesday through Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. The dessert shops are closed on Monday.
