Storefront Stories: Taco Loco

Date

Editor’s Note: Anderson SC Living is partnering with Rettew Creative to expand the audience for Storefront Stories as area businesses continue to rebuild from COVID-19. Bobby Rettew and digital media students from Anderson University’s Communications program recorded the first Storefront Story on April 22, 2021 and have since captured the experiences of almost 30 downtown businesses. Look for a Storefront Story every Wednesday here at Anderson SC Living.

Juan and Jamie Perez opened Taco Loco in downtown Anderson more than two years ago, finding South Main Street to be a perfect spot for their authentic Mexican restaurant with a family atmosphere.

Like other small business owners, the couple experienced the craziness and uncertainty caused by COVID-19, but also the love and support of the community.

During the pandemic, for example, Taco Loco received an order for 165 tacos from a gentleman who purchased them, then donated them to the Salvation Army.

“He helped us out and also helped the Salvation Army out,” Jamie Perez said. “People are thinking about other people in general, just coming together to show their love for everybody.”
