Community volunteer Mike Cannon of Anderson has been named WSPA’s Caring for the Carolinas Award Winner for September 2021.

“Mike is one of the hardest working gentlemen who doesn’t get a salary,” said Tim Crowe, president of Crowe’s Corp. Promotions. “He’s always willing to help anytime someone calls. He says, “Tell what I need to do and where I need to be.’”
The father of two adult special needs sons, Cannon spends many hours volunteering to help special needs individuals that he refers to as ‘our friends.’
“When I see someone I’ve helped, and in particular in our special needs community, the love that they show back is worth all the reward that I get,” Cannon said.c
Steve Crowe, owner of Foothills Motorsports in Powdersville, said he first met Cannon through their work with Haven of Rest Ministries.
“Mike is so involved and he’s so passionate about it. It just comes natural,” Crowe said. “I consider him a dear friend.”
Haven of Rest Community Relations Director Sid Stewart calls Cannon ‘the kingpin’ of the organization’s annual golf tournament.
“He understands golf, he understands tournaments and he’s made our golf tournament very successful. We owe a lot to Mike Cannon,” Stewart said.
Added Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander, “You know, his family and what they have meant to this community, they’ve always been leaders in the community and wanting to, again, make a difference in people’s lives. I really do appreciate the character of Mike Cannon, and all the hard work, the dedication, the loyalty that he has for his community.”
