Whether a comeback or a career change, Tri-County Technical College in Pendleton is helping area workers recover after a year dealing with the COVID pandemic.
Tri-County Tech presently is offering more than 40 workforce training programs that lead to a recognized credential or certificate in industries where high-demand jobs exist. Costs for training, course materials and assessments are covered by the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund.
Eleven of the programs focus specifically on the unemployed, with those who enroll in and attend at least one of the 11 programs allowed to forgo the weekly job search requirements to receive unemployment benefits. Unemployed workers can immediately enroll in the programs and begin receiving training for a new job, said Tri-County Tech’s Tiffany Blackwell.
“We have everything from IT, manufacturing and healthcare,” Blackwell said. “So, things like computer technician, emergency medical technician, manufacturing technician and then CDLs and welding, so a lot of options.”
All training programs are 16 weeks or less. Some programs require a high school diploma or GED equivalency, and some do not.
