A new one-of-a-kind dog park has opened at Anderson County PAWS where dogs, their owners and the community at large can gather for dog training, yoga and even movie nights.

Fundraising for the $300,000 project began two years ago, with construction of the park getting underway this past June.

The park features 10 fenced in areas where owners can bring their dogs to play or try out a shelter dog. There is also an amphitheater for movie nights and other community activities that can seat 85 to 100 persons. And a walking trail is planned that will surround the back half of the shelter’s 11 acres of property.

The public is invited to join Anderson County PAWS on Saturday, October 23, for its Fall Festival and Trick or Treating. The 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. event includes vendors, games, movies and animals for adoption. Trick or Treating will take place from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.

Anderson County PAWS is located at 1320 Highway 29 South in Anderson. Shelter hours are: Monday, Tuesday, Friday & Saturday, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m.; Wednesday & Sunday, closed.
