Belton Museum explores unusual careers with Unexpected! exhibit

Date

Unexpected!, an exhibit that takes a look at unusual careers and people from the area who pursued those careers is underway at Belton Area Museum.

“We have everything from someone who worked for the Secret Service to Lift Flight nurses and the pilot,” said Abigail Burden, executive director of Belton Area Museum Association. “In the exhibit itself, you’ll see some of the artifacts from these people, as well as other careers that you may never have imagined.”

Other unique careers represented at Unexpected! are professional fishermen and horse trainers.

Unexpected! continues at Belton Area Museum through September 2.

Belton Area Museum is housed in Belton Depot, originally a train depot built in 1911. The museum spans the entire Depot building and is divided into four sections: North End Gallery which houses three to four changing exhibits each year; the Ruth Drake Museum, a permanent collection of local history; the South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame; and event rental space.

A true community museum, the Belton Area Museum Association engages area residents in ideas and implementation of changing exhibits, according to Burden.
