Visual, wearable and performing arts on display at Art on the Town kickoff event on May 14

Date

Visual art, wearable art and the performing arts all will be on display during downtown Anderson’s popular Art on the Town kickoff event on Friday, May 14, from 6-10 p.m.

The Electric City’s annual art crawl is part of Anderson Arts Center’s Art on the Town, which includes a juried show at the center and 50 works of art on display at 13 retail and restaurant locations in downtown Anderson May 7-23. The May 14 kickoff event will include artist demonstrations, street performers and a drawing for $500 in cash.

On May 14, art crawl attendees should check in at the Anderson Arts Center where they will receive a passport with all participating retailers listed. Attendees who get their passports stamped at each location will be entered into a drawing to win $500. Attendees who purchase a wristband will be able to take advantage of special promotions offered by participating venues. Wristbands are $10 each.

Those attending the May 14 art crawl also will enjoy live outdoor music and appearances by T.L. Hanna High School students dressed in the wearable art they created for the 2021 Wearable Art Exhibition held in February at the Anderson Arts Center.

“The art crawl is way for people to support local businesses and see artwork that they wouldn’t normally see,” said the Anderson Art Center’s Addy Smith. “It’s a long, leisurely walk through the city and a good way to enjoy downtown.”
