The ribbon was cut Tuesday morning on Northern Suga’s new North Main Street location, bringing to 20 the number of new businesses that have opened in downtown Anderson in the last 18 months, according to city officials.
Northern Suga specializes in gourmet popcorn and made-from scratch candied apples that are as much works of art as gourmet sweets. The store was officially welcomed to downtown with a ribbon-cutting ceremony sponsored by the Anderson Area Chamber of Commerce.
“We are so excited to be in the downtown area,” said Kim Sams, who owns Northern Suga with her husband, Anthony. Formerly housed in Anderson Mall, the store is now located at 515 North Main Street across from the new Magnetic South Brewery.
“Being from the Midwest, we could always go a get gourmet popcorn and apples, and when we first moved to Anderson, there was nowhere to go,” Sams said. “I have the love for it because it was a tradition in our family.”
Northern Suga specialties include caramel, caramel pecan and turtle candied apples. But the crème de la crème is the Indulgent apple, which is a caramel apple encased with pecans, submerged in chocolate, then drizzled with white chocolate.
For Valentine’s Day, Northern Suga is gearing up to offer sweet treats such as chocolate dipped strawberries, chocolate stiletto heels filled with strawberries and chocolate bowls filled with chocolate and strawberries.
Northern Suga also offers corporate gifts, and provides its gourmet products for weddings, baby showers and birthday parties. You can follow @northernsuga on Facebook and Instagram.
