The new Home2Suites by Hilton in downtown Anderson was introduced to the local community at a Thursday ribbon cutting event. Started more than three years ago, the $21 million project includes a 320-space parking garage and a rooftop venue to come.
“We broke ground on this property about three years ago and I said it would be a game changer for all of us – a new venue to attract visitors and a spark for future development,” Anderson Mayor Terence Roberts said at Thursday’s ribbon cutting. “So, after the hard work from a lot of folks, we’re here, it happened and the game has changed.”
The buzz around the project has been enough to stimulate additional developer interest in Anderson, Roberts said, predicting that the new hotel would be like “jet fuel” on the commerce of The Electric City.
“It shows that we’re ready and worthy of major development,” Roberts said. “Our aspirational goal is to become the most desirable city in the region – not the biggest city but the most desirable city. Events like this remind all of us that we’re getting closer to that every day.”
Anderson City Manager David McCuen told WSPA News that there is another $180 million worth of projects that the city presently is working on.
“Anderson is going to continue to grow. We’re on the map. The downtown’s growing. It looks phenomenal, and so this is just a big part of that,” McCuen said.
The new Home2Suites by Hilton features 87 sleeping rooms, pet-friendly rooms, meeting space, business center, fitness center and outdoor pool. The property also features street-level restaurant and retail space.
